FAQ & Detailed Info

Please read all points on this page before placing an order, this will hilight any limitations we may encounter with your music. These guidelines are here to help us work in harmony and get your music sounding as best we can possibly achieve! If we’ve missed anything, please drop us a line via the contact page.

What is a Lathe Cut dubplate?

1-800-DUBPLATE own and maintain a VR-T560 Lathe, manufactured in Germany, which uses a stereo cutter-head and diamond stylus which cuts grooves into the plastic discs in realtime (as the music is played back) - think of it as a Vinyl Recorder if you will. Due to this process every single cut is monitored in the studio from start to finish, helping to reduce any audible mistakes or faults making their way to your product.

The sound quality is very close to what you’d expect from a pressed vinyl record, depending on the source audio. Please note - we are not a pressing plant, and are not working on super hi-fidelity vinyl cutting machinery that a pressing plant would have, so there may be some differences in audio quality from time to time, and the noise floor can sometimes be a little louder, we cut dubplates after all, also - we are not working in the super clean and sparkly digital realm!

What’s included

Once your order is placed, we process your audio and run a test cut, if anything concerns us we will be in-touch to explain and discuss options. We may tweak the stereo image, EQ adding light compression and de-essing if and where necessary. Once we are satisfied with the sound the files are rendered and exported to our audio player to be cut.

Our dubplates are cut with a diamond stylus, on heavyweight 2mm PETG plastic discs, ensuring high attention to detail across the full audio spectrum. If handled with care and not abused will last just as long as a regular pressed record. All manufacturing and processing done in the UK.

Once your dubs are complete, after quality checked, it is then packaged - and then over to you!

Running Time limits

The longer the track duration, the quieter the final recording will be. We are always going for quality over loudness when cutting, but at request will happily try and push the limits for you at the potential cost of distortion on the high-frequencies (this can sometimes sound ‘creative’ in electronic music - we totally understand!)

7” 3-min (optimal) / 4min 30secs (max)
10” 5-min (optimal) / 7min 30secs (max)

Audio Delivery & Mastering

Music is an art form and can become very subjective. As long as you’re happy with how the audio sounds at time of sending, rest assured, we will work our magic, regardless if you have a Vinyl Master, Digital Master or Pre-Master. If you’re cutting music that’s only available digitally, then make sure you are buying / supplying the highest quality audio files you have (Commonly 16 or 24-bit, 44.1kHz .WAV / .AIFF files)

Please use the order form to send non-expiring download links (Dropbox / GoogleDrive) to your audio.

For the old school generation, We can also cut from supplied CD/DAT, but just remember we can only cut the quality we receive, we are not miracle workers, please bring in or send to 1-800-Dubplate, 318 New Cross Road, London, SE14 6AF.

Do you offer digital mastering

We do not currently offer digital mastering at this stage. There are several amazing mastering engineers with amazing quality equipment, speakers and ears, not to mention years of experience. We can highly recommend our very good friend Bob Macc (Subvert Mastering), who’s highly talented and dedicated to getting the results you’re after. We’d also recommend reaching out to your favourite artists & labels to see who they use.

Small Batch Vinyl Runs

We also cater for artists, bands and record labels looking to manufacture their music in small limited edition runs. We have a very limited capacity for this kind of work, and there are discounted rates compared to our one-off dubplate offering for this type of project.

Please drop us a message via our Contact page to find out more.
